Over 5 days in September 2019 we experienced first-hand how South Devon is building climate resilience…we looked at how resilient South Devon is now and how that could be measured. Learning from local experience, we heard how climate change is already having an impact and what responses are being demanded of us.


We are exploring what we all value about the River Dart and what we can do to make it healthier (and more resilient). We began by bringing together people who live and work on the Dartington Estate, as well as interest groups like canoeists and fishermen…

THE ARCHIMEDES SCREW FEST... about experiencing ecology, economy arts and learning in a different way. Hosted by BLC, it is a free event on the River Dart, inviting people to explore community-led renewables, public art, citizen science and water stewardship. Archimedes himself sometimes makes an appearance… he was impressed by the turbines!


Engaging and empowering citizens to care for their environment and to work at whole-systems level.


Giving local people a greater sense of belonging and opening up the question of what it means to be a citizen of this place.


Promoting sustainable, low-carbon enterprise in this region as part of a long-term resilience strategy


Creating a learning region that offers direct & enjoyable experiences of ‘real-world problem-solving’ to people of all ages



The Bioregional Learning Centre is the brain-child of Isabel Carlisle and, since it’s formation in 2017, the team has been growing into a multi-skilled and passionate group of people who are all deeply committed to protect and improve the South Devon Bioregion and others all around the world…
